Lichen Sclerosus Care for the Long Term, Not Just the Flare
Lichen sclerosus is a chronic condition that requires ongoing care. At Entice, treatment focuses on symptom relief, vulvar tissue health, and a long-term plan designed around your individual needs.
Lichen Sclerosus Treatment in Dallas, TX
Commonly Missed, Frequently Misdiagnosed
Lichen sclerosus can cause itching, burning, irritation, painful intimacy, and visible changes to the vulvar tissue. Because these symptoms can overlap with other vulvar and vaginal conditions, including yeast infections or menopausal dryness, getting the right diagnosis is an important first step toward finding relief.
At Entice Intimate Wellness + Aesthetics in Dallas, TX, our team specializes in women’s intimate and vulvar health. Our founder, Dr. Wesley Anne Brady, has spent over two decades focused on women’s health and is a board-certified OBGYN and gynecologic surgeon. Her expertise guides our clinical protocols and approach to care.
If you already have a confirmed diagnosis, we can evaluate your symptoms and tissue health and develop an individualized treatment plan. If you have not been formally diagnosed, we will coordinate with or refer you to a gynecologist for appropriate evaluation and diagnosis before treatment begins.

The Entice Approach to Lichen Sclerosus
Lichen sclerosus is a chronic condition, which means the goal is long-term management rather than a single fix. Treatment plans at Entice are designed with both symptom relief and long-term vulvar and vaginal health in mind.
Your evaluation looks beyond whether lichen sclerosus is simply present. Your provider assesses where the condition is affecting tissue, the symptoms you are experiencing, and whether changes such as scarring, clitoral or labial hood fusion, vaginal dryness, or narrowing of the vaginal opening are present. These findings help shape an individualized treatment plan and establish a baseline for monitoring your progress.
Because lichen sclerosus can resemble other conditions, and because it is associated with a small increased risk of vulvar cancer, ongoing gynecologic surveillance remains an important part of care. Entice works alongside your gynecologic care rather than replacing it, with continued annual evaluation recommended even when your symptoms are well controlled.
- Physician-led care guided by Dr. Brady's 20+ years of medical expertise in vulvar and vaginal health
- A thorough intimate health evaluation to establish your symptoms and baseline tissue health
- A confirmed lichen sclerosus diagnosis before treatment begins, with biopsy performed by your gynecologist when indicated
- Treatment tailored to the location and extent of tissue changes and any associated vaginal control
- A structured treatment and follow-up plan rather than care only when symptoms flare
- An all-female clinical team experienced in intimate health concerns
- A private, boutique setting where nothing feels rushed
What Is Lichen Sclerosus?
Lichen sclerosus is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that most often affects the vulva and surrounding genital and anal areas. It can cause patches of thin, white, fragile skin that may crack, tear, or scar over time.
It can develop at any age, although it is more common in postmenopausal women. Because it is a chronic condition that can recur and cause progressive tissue changes, ongoing treatment and regular follow-up are important even when symptoms improve.
Symptoms of Lichen Sclerosus
- White patches of skin that may appear thinner or more fragile than surrounding tissue
- Mild to severe itching, often worse at night
- Burning, soreness, or irritation
- Redness or inflammation
- Wrinkling or changes in skin texture
- Pain or discomfort during intercourse
- Tearing, cracking, or bleeding, particularly with friction
- Scarring or changes to the structure of the vulva over time
Symptoms can vary significantly from one woman to another. Some experience persistent itching or irritation, while others first notice discomfort during intimacy or visible changes to the vulvar tissue. Lichen sclerosus can also be present with few or no noticeable symptoms, which is another reason regular examination and ongoing monitoring are important.
How Lichen Sclerosus Is Treated
There is no cure for lichen sclerosus, but treatment can help manage symptoms, support tissue health, and reduce the progression of scarring and other tissue changes. Because the condition can affect each woman differently, treatment should be based on both symptoms and the health of the vulvar and vaginal tissue.
At Entice, treatment may include a combination of the following:
MonaLisa Touch®
MonaLisa Touch uses fractional CO2 laser energy to treat affected vulvar tissue and support tissue health. At Entice, the initial protocol typically includes a series of 3 treatments spaced approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart, with treatment customized to the areas affected by lichen sclerosus.
External tissue is treated when indicated. Internal vaginal treatment may also be incorporated when vaginal involvement, dryness, or stenosis is present.
CO2Lift®V
CO2LiftV is incorporated throughout the initial treatment plan to support vulvar and vaginal tissue between in-office treatments. Your provider will give you specific instructions for at-home use based on your treatment schedule.
Vaginal Estrogen
When vaginal dryness, tissue changes, or stenosis are also present, prescription vaginal estradiol may be incorporated into the treatment plan to support vaginal tissue health. Your provider will determine whether hormone therapy is appropriate for you and provide individualized dosing instructions.
Additional Treatment When Needed
For patients with more advanced tissue changes or persistent symptoms, additional therapies may be recommended. Depending on your evaluation, this can include dilator therapy for vaginal stenosis or treatments such as Votiva and PRP to address additional vulvar and vaginal health concerns.
What to Expect With Lichen Sclerosus Treatment at Entice
Evaluation
Your first visit includes a detailed review of your symptoms, medical and treatment history, and a physical examination of the vulvar tissue. Your provider evaluates the location and extent of tissue changes, including any scarring or fusion around the labia or clitoral hood, and looks for areas that may require further gynecologic evaluation. When appropriate, a speculum examination is also performed to evaluate vaginal tissue health and determine whether vaginal lichen sclerosus, dryness, or stenosis is present. You’ll also complete an intimate health questionnaire to establish a baseline for your symptoms. If you have not already received a formal lichen sclerosus diagnosis, you will need to see a gynecologist for appropriate evaluation and diagnosis before beginning treatment at Entice. A biopsy may be recommended by your gynecologist when indicated.
Treatment
Treatment is individualized based on where lichen sclerosus is affecting the tissue and whether other vaginal health concerns are present. A typical Entice protocol includes a series of 3 MonaLisa Touch treatments performed approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart, along with CO2LiftV therapy between treatments. When vaginal dryness or stenosis is present, vaginal estradiol may also be prescribed. Patients with vaginal stenosis may begin dilator therapy after the second MonaLisa Touch treatment.
Follow-Up and Long-Term Maintenance
Approximately 6 months after your first treatment, your provider will reassess your symptoms and tissue health, including vaginal health and any stenosis identified during your initial evaluation. Because lichen sclerosus is chronic, care does not end with the initial treatment series. Maintenance typically includes a MonaLisa Touch treatment annually, or sooner if symptoms flare, along with supportive at-home care as recommended. Patients should also continue annual gynecologic examinations for ongoing vulvar surveillance, even when symptoms are well controlled.

Lichen Sclerosus Treatment Results
Because lichen sclerosus is a chronic condition, treatment is focused on managing symptoms and improving vulvar and vaginal tissue health rather than providing a permanent cure. Patients may notice improvements in itching, irritation, discomfort, tissue quality, or comfort during intimacy as they progress through treatment.
Results vary depending on your symptoms, the extent of tissue changes, and any associated vaginal health concerns. At Entice, a follow-up evaluation is typically performed approximately 6 months after your first treatment to assess your response, tissue health, and any vaginal stenosis identified at baseline. This cadence is dictated on your symptoms and adjusted based on your experience.
Ongoing maintenance is an important part of the treatment plan. Annual MonaLisa Touch treatment is typically recommended, or sooner if symptoms flare, along with continued gynecologic surveillance.

Lichen Sclerosus FAQs
How is lichen sclerosus diagnosed?
Lichen sclerosus is typically diagnosed through a clinical examination of the vulvar tissue. In most cases, a biopsy is recommended to confirm the diagnosis or evaluate concerning tissue changes. Entice requires a formal lichen sclerosus diagnosis before treatment begins. If you have not yet been diagnosed, you will need to see your gynecologist for evaluation first.
Is lichen sclerosus curable?
Lichen sclerosus is a chronic condition without a cure, but it can be managed. Treatment focuses on controlling symptoms, supporting vulvar tissue health, limiting progressive tissue changes, and maintaining results over time.
Does MonaLisa Touch replace topical treatment?
No. Topical corticosteroids are an established medical treatment for lichen sclerosus. At Entice, MonaLisa Touch may be incorporated into a broader treatment plan based on your symptoms, tissue health, previous treatment, and other concerns identified during your evaluation.
How many MonaLisa Touch treatments will I need?
Entice’s initial lichen sclerosus protocol typically includes a series of 3 MonaLisa Touch treatments spaced approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart. Treatment is customized based on the areas affected and whether vaginal dryness, stenosis, or other concerns are also present. Ongoing maintenance is typically recommended annually or sooner if symptoms flare.
Is MonaLisa Touch used internally or externally for lichen sclerosus?
Treatment is customized to where lichen sclerosus and related tissue concerns are present. MonaLisa Touch may be used externally on affected vulvar tissue. Internal vaginal treatment may also be incorporated when vaginal involvement, vaginal dryness, or stenosis is identified during your evaluation.
Does the laser treatment hurt?
Treatment is performed in-office and is generally well tolerated. Your provider will discuss what to expect during treatment and any steps used to keep you comfortable based on the areas being treated.
How soon will I notice results?
Improvement can occur gradually throughout your treatment plan, and results vary depending on your symptoms and the extent of tissue changes. Entice typically reassesses patients approximately 6 months after the first treatment to evaluate symptoms, vulvar and vaginal tissue health, and any stenosis identified at baseline.
Why does lichen sclerosus require ongoing follow-up?
Lichen sclerosus is chronic and symptoms can return even after successful treatment. Long-term care helps manage recurring symptoms and monitor tissue changes over time. Entice typically recommends ongoing maintenance treatment, while patients should continue regular gynecologic care for appropriate vulvar surveillance.
Can lichen sclerosus affect intimacy?
Yes. Lichen sclerosus can cause irritation, tearing, scarring, and changes to the vulvar tissue that make sexual activity uncomfortable or painful. In some patients, scarring or narrowing of the vaginal opening can also contribute to discomfort. Your treatment plan can address these associated concerns when they are identified during your evaluation.
Can lichen sclerosus cause scarring or changes to the vulva?
Yes. Over time, lichen sclerosus can cause scarring and changes to the structure of the vulva, including fusion around the labia or clitoral hood. Some patients may also develop narrowing that affects vaginal comfort or sexual activity. Identifying these changes during your evaluation helps your provider determine which treatments may be appropriate.

I’ve been coming to Entice …for many years, having everything from surgery, to skin care and sexual treatments to HRT, and always enjoyed the services I’ve received there. The staff is great, friendly and helpful, and facilities are very nice and peaceful. They also offer services that you can’t find anywhere else. Everything a woman could want and didn’t know she needed! I appreciate that they keep abreast of all the new and innovative procedures. Now that I’m getting older, I love knowing that I don’t have to be “old” sexually. There are so many options out there to help improve our sex lives and they offer them all. I’m more active now than I’ve ever been and thoroughly enjoying it! Very impressive! I’ve researched other facilities but have yet to find a place that offers all that Entice does. More women should know about them.
